GYM/HOUSE/WORKOUT Rules and Suggestions to Optimize your Workouts

1. Workout Clothes:

As a healthcare professional, I personally don't wear or allow any hospital clothes/uniforms/shoes or any type of shoes worn outside in my house or gym period.

- I encourage comfortable fitting workout clothes that allow for a full range of motion.  This is not a beauty contest.  Clothes that are too tight or stiff, will severely limit ROM, and therefore distract from an effective workout.

- Footware:  I either workout with form-fitting socks on or I have specific gym shoes that I wear specifically for working out in my home gym and are never worn outside.  Most of the time,  I actually prefer working out without shoes.  Without shoes, I feel my balance is more stable and therefore my form is more stable.

Nevertheless, for a few individuals, a few exercises (including standing calf, assisted chin/dip, Roman Chair back extensions) footgear might be in order, as those exercises might be uncomfortable for some. If you must wear shoes during your workout, that's not a problem.  I have a shoe rack in the gym, in which you can leave whatever clean and hopefully new foot gear you feel will be most conducive to your working out.  I encourage it, if you feel it's necessary.

If you choose to wear workout shoes which I highly recommend for several exercises, no problem, as I will compensate you by giving you an additional free session to compensate you for the expense of the foot wear.

2. Being On Time and Warming Up:

It's obviously important to be on time or early for the workout.  There's a Starbucks a couple blocks away for coffee or tea.  If you can get here early, you can gently warm up by walking around my serene neighborhood or use the Stairmaster for a few minutes, and then stretch in the gym or my garden to prepare for the intense workout that will inevitably follow.  "Warming up" for most people is not entirely necessary (my exercise form is very safe, and the first set or two of the session will further serve as a warm-up anyway) as it takes some energy and focus away from the workout.  Nevertheless, anyone with injuries or anyone that feels the need to raise their core temperature to get ready and psych up for the upcoming workout is encouraged to warm-up, so they can get the most out of their short, but intense workout session.

3. Being focused during the Workout:

It's important to be focused during the workout.  Try to keep distractions away during this time.  Obviously, if you are thinking about things other than the workout during the workout, you will not be able to trigger the adaption response, which requires your full attention.  In addition to being unable to get the most out of your workout, there's always is a chance of injury no matter how safe my form is, so focus is paramount.  If you need to discuss things other than the workout, we can do it after the workout, provided that there is no other client after you.  Your goal, hopefully, is to get in, get the best workout of you life, get out, and get on with your life.

4. House Amenities:

- I have a bathroom reserved only for guests for use at all times.
- I have clean towels on hand at this time, although it is encouraged that you bring your own.
- I have filtered water and clean glasses, so you don't have to bring your own water if you don't want to.
- There is a Stairmaster, a recumbent bike and a stretching area in the living room with a TV that you can use during warm-ups.
- In the garden you can chill out, catch some rays, drink your tea or coffee, as you stretch for the upcoming workout.

6. Beware of The Cats

Unfortunately, there are individuals who are allergic to cats, and I do have cats.  The cats do not go into the gym area of the house, ever.  They're locked out.  But the restroom is in the body of the house where the cats frequent.  So, if you are very allergic to cats, it might be a problem for some.  Sorry about that.

MOST IMPORTANT RULE BELOW

5. Workout gear:

You don't necessarily need any of the following, but they are recommended:

- I recommend getting a pair of well-fitting workout gloves
- For pulling exercises (back and lower back work), I suggest you buy some
Versa Gripps.  They sell them on-line.  You can get them on Amazon.com, or VersaGripps.comThey are the best pulling exercise accessory on the market, period!
- Form fitting footgear (this is discussed in length above).
- Clean Towel

And that's all you need.
